This year’s beach awards have seen a triple success for the district, with Tankerton scooping a prestigious Blue Flag and Herne Bay and Reculver winning Seaside Awards.
The annual awards scheme run by Keep Britain Tidy recognises the UK’s best beaches – those that are clean and safe, and meet the highest environmental standards and tough international bathing water quality requirements.
All three of the district’s winning beaches are managed by the city council’s Foreshore team.
Chairman of the council’s Community Committee, Cllr Neil Baker, said: “We are very pleased these beaches have once again hit the standards required to win these awards. The criteria is tough and success is by no means a given, so it’s something that should be really celebrated.
“Lots of people love a dip in the sea, from the daily swimmers to families on a day out at the beach. They can go into the water knowing it’s clean and safe to do so.
“We’re looking forward to another busy summer along the coast and the hard work that goes into looking after our beaches is an important part of the service we provide to residents and visitors.”
