Legal order creates parish council

A legal order creating a new parish council for Hersden has been brought into effect.

The village is growing and a recent public consultation held by Canterbury City Council discovered a strong feeling it needed its own voice.

Hersden Parish Council will come into being next year in time for the local council elections in May and will operate from the Hersden Neighbourhood Centre.

Earlier this month, residents attended an information event hosted by Canterbury City Council and the Kent Association of Local Councils (KALC).

The response was positive with around 40 people expressing an interest in becoming a parish councillor.

The order includes changes to a number of other parish boundaries and parish names all of which can be found in the attached document.

The changes were approved as part of the council’s Community Governance Review which was approved by council in July 2018.

A hard copy of the order is available at the offices of Canterbury City Council in Military Road, Canterbury.
