Community groups have been out in full force to tackle litter as part of this year’s Great British Spring Clean.
More than 60 volunteers took part in two separate community litter picks last weekend collecting bags of waste and a large number of bulky waste items.
The Friends of Kingsmead field organised litter pick tackled the area around the Kingsmead leisure centre and along the River Stour collecting 30 sacks of rubbish, a rusty Sainsbury’s trolley and part of a mahogany table.
Whilst the Friends of Westgate Parks battled the weather to collect 25 sacks of rubbish and some bulky waste from the area around Toddler’s Cove and Bingley Island.
The community litter picks are fully supported by Canterbury City Council who recently launched their ‘Love Where We Live’ campaign aimed at tackling littering, flyposting and graffiti.
