Make sure you’re registered to vote

The city council is urging people to make sure they are registered to vote ahead of the Kent County Council elections on Thursday 4 May.

Anybody not on the register by Thursday 13 April will be unable to vote. Registration can be completed online or by emailing the council’s electoral services team at or calling 01227 862007. Anyone unsure if they are currently registered should get in touch to check.

Canterbury’s Electoral Registration Officer, Colin Carmichael, said it was important everybody took the time to check they are registered.

He added: “If you’re not on the electoral register, not only will you be unable to vote, but you may struggle to get a mortgage or credit card too. Registering is very simple and only takes a few minutes.”

The deadline for postal vote applications for the election is 5pm on Tuesday 18 April. A postal vote will be sent out a week to ten days before the election.

The deadline for proxy vote applications is 5pm on Tuesday 25 April. The reason for not being able to vote in person must be provided.

Contact electoral services as above to arrange a postal or proxy vote.
