Whitstable Forum: Your guide

Our forums are a place where councillors and the public come together to talk about the city council issues affecting their area.

There are four: one each covering Canterbury, Herne Bay, Whitstable and the rural areas.

A forum is there to engage with the community and pass on its views to the council’s decision-making committees – so it’s a great way to talk to your local councillors and influence those decisions.

In fact, before each meeting, there is the chance to meet and chat with councillors and council officers.

You are more than welcome to speak at the meeting, just raise your hand.

Because different councils deliver different services, parish councils are an integral part of the Rural Forum. County councillors are also invited to all four meetings.

Venue

This venue is accessible and will have a hearing loop.

Timings

  • 6.30pm – chance to chat with councillors over tea and coffee
  • 7pm – meeting begins
  • 9pm – meeting usually finishes

Agenda

The agenda for each meeting is published on our website or via the mod.gov app on your tablet. The agenda also includes the monitoring sheet from the previous forum meeting.

Wifi will be at each venue but we strongly advise you to download the papers in advance.

If you want to suggest an item for discussion at a future meeting, email democracy@canterbury.gov.uk.

All suggestions will be considered by the chairman and the director who is responsible for that committee.

Opportunities Fund

Community groups can apply to the forum for funding for projects that help make the area a better place to live.
