All new play equipment for Sturry Road Community Park

It’s play time once again at the Sturry Road Community Park with the unveiling of all new play equipment for children up to the age of 14.

The new play area, costing £57,000, replaces old equipment that was removed earlier this year having reached the end of its life.

It has a theme of nature and provides play opportunities for all, including a number of accessible and inclusive items such as a roundabout, swings, interactive and sensory play panels and totem poles.

And it complements facilities already in place at Sturry Road Community Park – a skate park, ball court, BMX area and kick about area.

Cabinet member for play areas, Cllr Charlotte Cornell, said: “Improving our play areas is a major priority for us. I know very well from my own experience that children need places where they can run about, test themselves and learn about playing with their peers.

“There’s now some fantastic equipment at this park which we hope will bring a lot of joy to children living in the area.

“We recently completed work to upgrade the play area at the Memorial Park in Herne Bay and a brand new play area will open in the Dane John Gardens in Canterbury next week. It’s great to see such improvements for local families taking place in our district.”

The Sturry Road Community Park equipment was formally opened by the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Cllr Jean Butcher, on Friday 1 December, when she was joined by the Lady Mayoress, Di Baldock, other councillors and council officers to cut the ribbon.

The full list of play equipment at the site is as follows:
