Stour Environmental Credits welcomes new General Manager

Stour Environmental Credits (SEC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Clark Gordon as its new General Manager, beginning this month.
His arrival comes at a pivotal time for the organisation, as SEC continues to accelerate its work to unlock stalled housing development across the River Stour catchment.
SEC, a joint venture between Ashford Borough Council and Canterbury City Council, is working to source a broad range of nutrient mitigation solutions and provide them as credits to developers, helping to release housing schemes that have been put on hold because of water‑quality issues in the Stour and the Stodmarsh nature reserve near Canterbury.
Recent progress includes revealing the very competitive price of the credits it will be able to offer and its work with the Norfolk Rivers Consortium to replace people’s septic tanks for free to reduce the amount of phosphorus and nitrogen entering the catchment which will lead to the creation of credits that can be sold to developers.
This year, SEC will be working closely with planning authorities to identify strategic developments delayed by nutrient constraints so it can support them through the credit allocation process.
Before joining Stour Environmental Credits, Clark served as the Water Neutrality Project Manager at Horsham District Council.
In this role, he was responsible for planning and implementing the council-led water neutrality offsetting scheme across West Sussex.
His work contributed to unlocking development impacted by water neutrality requirements — experience that aligns strongly with SEC’s mission to support sustainable, environmentally-responsible growth.
Clark said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Stour Environmental Credits at such a pivotal moment, just as we can begin issuing nutrient credits to allow development to move again.
“I hope this scheme will play a meaningful role in bringing much needed housing to the community, and I’m excited to make my mark on the day-to-day operations as we push this important work forward.”
