Lord Mayor’s Awards open for nominations

It’s time to get your nominations in for the 2026 Lord Mayor’s Award, which will see unsung heroes from the Canterbury district celebrated for their selfless dedication to helping others.

There are no age limits and nominations are welcome from all walks of life.

Nominees must live, work, study or volunteer in Canterbury, Herne Bay, Whitstable or a village in the district, but you don’t have to live in the district to nominate.

The deadline to put someone forward is Wednesday 30 October.

Entries will be judged by the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Cllr Alister Brady, and a representative from each of the political groups at the city council. The awards will be presented at a ceremony early next year.

Cllr Brady said: “As Lord Mayor, I am delighted to champion the Lord Mayor’s Awards, which provide a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the unsung heroes within our community.

“Across our district, there are incredible people who give their time selflessly, go above and beyond to help others, and work tirelessly to make the places where they live better for everyone.

“They do not do it for recognition, but their contributions deserve to be recognised.

“I encourage everyone to think about those exceptional people in their community and nominate them. This is our opportunity to celebrate their achievements, recognise their kindness and dedication, and say a heartfelt thank you.”
