Book now for a relaxed skating session
People wanting to enjoy the city’s Christmas ice rink in a quiet and calm atmosphere can now book a relaxed skating session that has no music or flashing lights.
Two sessions have been set up – Saturday 7 December at 10am and Sunday 29 December at 10am.
They are ideal for those who would prefer a more relaxed atmosphere on the rink, including people with an autism spectrum condition, learning disability or communication and sensory disorder, or who struggle with noise or bright lights.
Canterbury on Ice comes to the Dane John Gardens between Friday 29 November and Wednesday 1 January 2020 and is being run in-house by the city council as a commercial and cultural venture.
Head of Commercial and Cultural Development, Caroline Cooper, said: “One of our key aims with Canterbury on Ice is to create an atmosphere where everyone can feel safe and at ease on the rink. We want to ensure people of all ages and abilities can enjoy the city’s newest festive attraction.
“We know there are people who will be put off by the thought of lights and music, and hope these relaxed, quieter skating sessions will mean they can still experience our fantastic ice rink.”
