Concept map for Station Road West transport hub published

A plan showing how a more integrated transport hub in Canterbury's Station Road West could look has been circulated to councillors by Canterbury City Council.

The concept drawing was requested by the Regeneration and Property Committee during discussions about the c ouncil’s plan to build a multi-storey car park.

It is the result of discussions between the council, bus company Stagecoach, train operator Southeastern and Network Rail, which manages railway infrastructure, as each of those organisations is responsible for delivery of parts of the concept plan.

Chairman of the Regeneration and Property Committee, Cllr Ben Fitter-Harding, said: “This is our collaborative idea of how the area could look in the future as the multi-storey car park and additional spaces it brings unlocks land around the station, allowing its function as a transport hub to be enhanced.

“Between us we will need to draw up more detailed plans, and decide how the improvements will be funded.

“We will work hard with our partners to deliver this plan and our map provides all those who are involved with something to aspire to.”

The plan was released today (Thursday 10 January) ahead of a petition being presented to tonight’s Full Council meeting relating to the multi-storey car park.

The meeting starts at 7pm in the Guildhall, St Peter’s Place, Canterbury.
