Notice – Seaside pleasure boats byelaws

Notice is hereby given that Canterbury City Council intends after the expiry of the period mentioned below to apply to the Secretary of State for confirmation of byelaws made by the Council under section 76 of the Public Health Act 1961, the ‘Seaside Pleasure Boats’ byelaws, for the prevention of danger, obstruction or annoyance to persons bathing in the sea or using the seashore.  These byelaws shall apply to the seashore between the western boundary of the Canterbury district, being a point 590 metres to the west of the Sportsman Inn, and the eastern boundary of the Canterbury district, being a point 1,720 metres to the east of Reculver Towers, and there from for a distance seaward of 300 metres from high water mark.

Normal procedure requires copies of the proposed byelaws to be kept at the offices of the Council and be open to inspection on any weekday during the usual office hours for one calendar month from and after the date of the first publication of this notice.  

Due to the present National lockdown measures in relation to Covid 19, it would be irresponsible for the Council to permit such inspections.  Therefore, the byelaws will be available free of charge and upon request by telephone or email for 32 days from the publication of this notice (21 January 2021). The byelaw may also be viewed here. If you have any problems with either of these options, please let us know.

Any objection to the application for the confirmation of the byelaws may be made by letter addressed to The Byelaws Team, 2nd Floor, Fry Building, 2 Marsham Street, London, SW1P 4DF or email byelaws@communities.gov.uk (no later than one week after the closing date for inspection) before the byelaws are confirmed.
