Draft Cultural Strategy

The council is asking residents, organisations and local partners for their views on its draft Cultural Strategy, which will help shape the future of arts and culture across the district.
The Cultural Strategy builds on the council’s Corporate Plan Returning Pride to Our District, which aims to create a greener, fairer, stronger district.
A key priority of the plan is to improve opportunities for everyone to participate in cultural activities.
The strategy sets out how the council, organisations, businesses and communities can work together to:
- better understand the district’s existing cultural offer and assets
- support longer-term investment in culture
- increase participation in cultural activities
- join up opportunities for culture delivery across the district
Early engagement has shown that stakeholders feel more could be done to:
- celebrate the district’s unique cultural heritage and contemporary offer
- encourage greater collaboration and a more joined-up approach
- amplify young voices in shaping cultural events and opportunities
- ensure cultural provision is more inclusive and better balanced between the city and coastal towns
- attract funding to strengthen cultural infrastructure and activities
This consultation seeks feedback on the draft Cultural Strategy, including its key themes and ambitions.
We would like to know whether you agree with the proposed priorities, if there are areas you feel are missing, and what aspects of culture are most important to you.
Your feedback will directly influence the final version of the Cultural Strategy.
