Notice – Public bathing byelaws
Notice is hereby given that Canterbury City Council intends to make new byelaws under section 231 of the Public Health Act 1936, with respect to public bathing. The Byelaws allot for public bathing the area of the sea to a distance seaward of 300 metres from high water mark, between the western boundary of the Canterbury district, being a point 590 metres to the west of the Sportsman Inn, and the eastern boundary of the Canterbury district, being a point 1,720 metres to the east of Reculver Towers, with the exception of areas referred to in the Seaside Pleasure Boats byelaws made by the Council under section 76 of the Public Health Act 1961.
Normal procedure requires copies of the proposed byelaws along with the certain appropriate documents to be kept at the offices of the Council and be open to inspection without payment on any weekday during usual business hours for 28 days from the publication of this notice.
Due to the present National lockdown measures in relation to Covid 19, it would be irresponsible for the Council to permit such inspections. Therefore, the documents will be available free of charge and upon request by telephone or email for 32 days from the publication of this notice. The byelaw may also be viewed here . Written representations about the byelaws, including any objections, should be sent by email to foreshore.services@canterbury.gov.uk or by post to Canterbury City Council, Foreshore Services, Whitstable Harbour Offices, Whitstable, CT5 1AB by 32 days from the publication of this notice.

Any objection to the application for the confirmation of the byelaws may be made by letter addressed to The Byelaws Team, 2nd Floor, Fry Building, 2 Marsham Street, London, SW1P 4DF or email byelaws@communities.gov.uk (no later than one week after the closing date for inspection) before the byelaws are confirmed.

- Encourage growth in the tourism, cultural and creative, technological and service-based parts of the economy
- Create well-designed buildings and public space
- Support vibrant town centres
- Secure new infrastructure such as roads and schools
- Encourage sustainable travel and energy efficient buildings
- Enhance and preserve our historic and natural environment
Overall the plan will seek to address the challenges of climate change and work to improve the health and wellbeing of our communities especially in the aftermath of the current pandemic.
