Proposed changes to parking restrictions – summer 2025

We are currently consulting on the proposed changes to parking restrictions listed below.
The consultation runs from Thursday 8 to Thursday 29 May.
If you wish to comment on, or object to, any of the above proposals, please email transportation@canterbury.gov.uk.
In addition to the information below, the deposit document contains more detail, including maps of the proposals.
Consultation responses must be received by midday on Thursday 29 May.
Starle Close, Canterbury
Some residents are concerned about the number of non-residents parking in Starle Close, possibly due to the proximity of the Riverside development. The council is proposing to transfer Starle Close from the All Saints residents’ parking zone to the St Gregory’s zone. This would mean that non-permit holders would be limited to parking for two hours and would have to pay to park.
A survey of residents was circulated and all of the respondents were in favour of the change. The council is now consulting about the legal changes to parking restrictions necessary to make this change.
Longport, Canterbury
The council is proposing to change one on-street parking bay to a bay reserved for car club vehicles. This is because the existing bay in Longport car park will be unavailable while the car park is temporarily closed.
Kemsing Gardens, Canterbury
The council is proposing to prohibit parking in part of Kemsing Gardens because the road is too narrow for parking on both sides. The proposal would also make it easier for pedestrians to cross the road.
Ashford Road, Canterbury
The council is proposing to extend double yellow lines in Ashford Road in order to address the issue of vans being parked on the pavement and a lack of visibility at the access to the Ashford Road Community Association Hall.
Central Parade, Herne Bay
In most parking places along Central Parade drivers are not allowed to return to park again for four hours. This condition does not apply in the electric vehicle charging bay so that limitation will now be imposed.
