Bin collection update - Friday 12 February

Bin collections

Crews have been out today (Friday), having not gone out yesterday following the fresh snow that fell on Wednesday night and led to icy, unsafe conditions.

Crews have been out today (Friday), having not gone out yesterday following the fresh snow that fell on Wednesday night and led to icy, unsafe conditions.

They are catching up on more of the missed collections from over the last few weeks as well as some scheduled collections from this week. Collections will also take place tomorrow (Saturday).

It will not be possible to empty all of the bins that were scheduled for this week and we apologise for any inconvenience. For now, please leave your bin out and we will do our best to get to it by the end of tomorrow.

If we do not get to you by then, please bring your bin from this week back in. All those missed this week will receive a double collection of what should have been taken, on your scheduled day during week commencing 22 February. Side waste will be allowed - more on this below.

Next week (w/c 15 February) the collection will be as scheduled. Please put out the bin that is due to be emptied next week, not what was missed this week.

Side waste arrangements for w/c 22 February

If that is black bin week for you, we will accept extra black or purple sacks. Please ensure bags that are not in a wheelie bin are securely tied and, if possible, double bagged.

If that is recycling week for you, we will accept side recycling. Paper and card should be bundled up and be no more than 60cm square. Please try and put all glass in the wheelie bin or box for the safety of the crews.

Extra recycling like plastic and cans should be washed and squashed and put out in a cardboard box. Please do not use sacks or a green bin on this occasion, as these will not be taken or emptied.

For those people who are able to get there, slots are available at Kent County Council's household waste centres for excess waste. At the time of writing, you can currently book both Canterbury and Herne Bay for Tuesday 16 February. Go to KCC's website.

Thank you for your patience while we work through the backlog. We are also grateful for the messages of support and thanks from residents who we have managed to visit this week in what have been less than ideal circumstances.
