Bin collections update – 19 February

Bin collections update - 19 February

While our crews have made enormous progress this week, we are sorry for those of you whose collections are still delayed. We appreciate this is frustrating and is causing a lot of inconvenience.

Once we have overcome the challenges posed by Covid-19 on staff numbers over a number of weeks, the handover from our former contractor Serco and last week’s bad weather, we have plans in place that will allow us to steadily improve the service we provide.

But first our focus is on clearing the backlog.

Tomorrow (Saturday 20 February), we will concentrate on those streets that were missed last Thursday (11 February) and last Friday (12 February) because of the icy conditions.

If that is you please leave your bins out for collection.

We recognise that people still have a lot of waste to dispose of so next week (from Monday 22 February), and only for next week, we will be accepting side waste – waste that does not fit in your bin.

To help us, please follow these rules:

If it is a black bin week for you, we will accept extra black or purple sacks. Please ensure bags that are not in a wheelie bin are securely tied and, if possible, double bagged.

If it is a recycling week for you, we will accept recycling that does not fit in your bin. Paper and card should be bundled up and be no more than 60cm square. Please try and put all glass in the wheelie bin or box for the safety of the crews. Extra recycling like plastic and cans should be washed and squashed and put out in a cardboard box. Please do not use sacks or a green bin on this occasion, as these will not be taken or emptied.

For those people who are able to get there, slots are available at Kent County Council's household waste centres for excess waste.

At the time of writing, you can currently book at Canterbury and Herne Bay for Tuesday 23 February.
