Fishermen supported with their dental needs

Last week we were delighted to host a Seafit event at Whitstable Harbour.

Seafit events bring together charities and healthcare providers that offer advice and practical support for fishing communities.

The Dental charity, Dentaid, works with the Fisherman’s Mission to take mobile dental services directly to the quayside.

Kent Fire and Safety officers also attended the event to offer fire safety advice.

Esther Gilson, of the Whitstable Fishermens Association, said: “This was a successful event which fully supported the local fishing community by providing vital, often overlooked health care.

“We are very grateful to the council, along with the Fishermen’s Mission, who helped to facilitate this day for us.”

Whitstable Harbour Board Chairman, Cllr Chris Cornell, said: “It was great to see the Fisherman’s Mission and local NHS services working proactively to engage with our fishing community.

“We hope to be able to use the harbour as a location to host more community outreach sessions in the future.”
