Groundwater flood alert issued for east Kent

A flood alert for groundwater flooding in east Kent has been issued this evening (Tuesday 19 December).

Groundwater levels have been rising due to the high amount of rain in recent months.

The flood alert covers areas including the Petham Bourne, Alkham bourne and Nailbourne including Elham, Barham, Bishopsbourne, Bridge, Patrixbourne and Bekesbourne.

You can read the full flood alert information on the national government website.

And you can also sign up for flood warnings.

Today our highly experienced engineering team has been out along South Barham Road deploying our demountable flood barriers (pictured above).

This work will continue tomorrow alongside sandbagging in strategic locations.

After today’s heavy rain, it is good news that conditions look a bit drier in the days ahead.

Further updates will follow as necessary.
