Cash secured for hat-trick of Herne Bay play area revamps

Three play areas in Herne Bay are set for a major revamp following the city council’s successful bid for £270,000 from the government’s Playground Fund.

The sites in line for an upgrade are those on the seafront in Central Parade (pictured above), Collins Road in Greenhill and Honeysuckle Way in Broomfield.

In anticipation of the funding bid getting the green light, the council has already carried out in-person public consultation at all three locations to find out what residents and visitors would like to see in the improved play areas.

This work has provided valuable insight as the council puts together the design brief for the sites. This is ahead of the tender process starting this autumn to find a play company to provide and install the new equipment.

Cabinet member for play areas, Cllr Mel Dawkins, said: “This is more good news for children and families in Herne Bay as we continue our work to upgrade the town’s play equipment.

“Last week we started work on an upgrade and expansion of the play area at the Memorial Park, and now hot on the heels of that we hear of this successful funding bid to pay for improvements at three more sites.

“It’s a massive well done to our officers who turned round this bid at very short notice and have done a fantastic job.

“We now have lots of work to do behind the scenes to get this project moving forward and we will keep residents updated on progress in the months to come.”
