Mural vandalism “disrespectful and unacceptable” as clean up completed

We were so disappointed over the weekend to see the vandalism of the new mural at the East Cliff in Herne Bay.

This was mindless and utterly pointless damage and we are sure all right-minded people would join us in condemning it.

The mural was coated in an anti-graffiti covering once completed and this morning our graffiti team joined forces with Canenco’s graffiti cleaners to remove it.

They’ve done a fantastic job, but let’s be clear – they shouldn’t have needed to.

This has cost taxpayers a few hundred pounds to clean off, which is money we would far rather spend on providing services to our residents.

Cabinet member for community safety, Cllr Connie Nolan, said: “Council staff were as disgusted as residents when they saw the tagging on the newly-completed mural. A huge thank you to the graffiti team and Canenco for acting so quickly to remove this.

“Tagging is disrespectful and unsightly – it’s not art, it’s the human equivalent of an animal marking its territory, and it’s unacceptable.”
