Nailbourne update as it progresses through the district

Our engineering team is continuing to closely monitor the Nailbourne as it flows through our district.

While the river flow is currently fast through Barham, we are not in a flood situation. However, our flood status over the coming weeks remains heavily dependent on upcoming rainfall.

As of this morning (Monday 9 February), the river has not yet reached Out Elmsted Lane.

To prepare for rising levels, we are putting the following measures in place:

Road closures: we have requested that Kent County Council closes South Barham Road and The Causeway in Barham.

Flood barriers: We will begin deploying demountable flood barriers along South Barham Road tomorrow (Tuesday 10 February).

Floodgates: We are prepared to close the floodgates at Bishopsbourne and Bridge as soon as conditions require.

Canenco is currently reviewing its contingency plans to minimise any disruption to waste collection services in the affected areas.

Further updates will follow as the situation evolves.
