New microsite for iconic working harbour brimming with history

Everything you need to know about Whitstable’s historic working harbour is now in one place thanks to its new microsite.

Now up and running, the microsite can be found at whitstableharbour.co.uk and is jampacked with information.

It tells valued visitors:

  • where they can shop and eat
  • things to see and do
  • all about the harbour’s heritage and history
  • about the educational and volunteering opportunities
  • all they need to know about the South Quay Shed
  • about the day-to-day operations of the harbour

It also helps people to plan their visit and will be invaluable to locals too who will be fascinated by its history and what goes on there day in and day out and in all weathers.

Cllr Chris Cornell (pictured above), Chair of the Whitstable Harbour Board and Canterbury City Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Inclusion, said: “The harbour is the beating heart of the town and brings in thousands of people every year.

“Our new microsite will give them a flavour of what to expect before they travel and will be really useful to those who live here and pass it every day.

“We are so lucky to have such an amazing asset on our doorstep and our thanks go to all of the businesses the harbour hosts for bringing it alive and for all of the jobs they create alongside the community groups and the RNLI.”

The new microsite was designed Canterbury BID, who run Visit Canterbury, with support from Visit Kent.

It complements the Visit Canterbury site so people visiting anywhere in the district can find out about the area’s unique offer.
