Solly’s Orchard reopens after revamp

We’re pleased to say Solly’s Orchard and Abbot’s Mill have reopened following our revamp work over the last few months.
It’s all looking stunning in the spring sunshine.
The new planting, trees and grass are all taking nicely and we have installed new benches, perfect for taking a seat and watching the world go by.

A new, surfaced path next to the river improves access for those with pushchairs or mobility difficulties and offers a new viewing area for the cathedral.
And the partial removal of the wall between the two sites means you can see through to Solly’s Orchard from Abbot’s Mill.
We have also improved accessibility across the sluices by adding an additional step and handrail.
As well as making the whole park a more useable space for the public, the trees and planting bring biodiversity gains and hopefully stunning natural displays during spring blossom season and in the autumn.

We thank the residents living nearby for their input into the project, which has helped us reach these fantastic end results.
Some final finishing touches to the pathways and interpretation totems will follow in the coming weeks.
