Switch Together opens for new applications

More Canterbury district residents can now save money and help save the planet through renewable energy measures as the new Switch Together scheme opens for applications.

Switch Together, which opened on Monday 23 February, is the new name for the scheme previously known as Solar Together Kent and offers access to a range of green technology projects for domestic properties.

These include cut-price high quality solar panels, battery storage, heat pumps and smarter energy tariffs in a single programme.

Through its group-buying approach, the scheme’s community-scale purchasing power leads to reduced costs for customers.

Under its old name, the scheme saw 537 new low-carbon systems installed in the district, equating to a 472,847kg reduction in carbon emissions.

Cabinet member for environment and climate change, Cllr Mel Dawkins, said: “It’s great news for residents that this scheme is open for applications. We have seen significant interest locally over the last few years and expect to have the same this time too.

“With support all the way through from registration to installation, and the scheme only using vetted suppliers and high quality systems, it’s a great opportunity to save money on bills, reduce carbon emissions and help protect our planet.

“Early sign-up is encouraged in order to take advantage of group-buying deals and expert support.”

People can register their interest for free on the Switch Together website until Friday 27 March. There is no obligation at that stage to take up the scheme and they can change their mind.

When registering, residents are asked a few questions about their home and energy needs. This allows the experts to calculate the best possible offer, number of panels and battery storage capacity for the property.

They will then receive a personalised solar system offer that includes the recommended number of panels and optimal battery storage, alongside potential savings.

If the decision is then to go ahead, they will be contacted directly by a trusted installer who will handle all the detail.

Around 1,600 households will receive a letter from the council about this round of the Switch Together scheme.
