Top bands headline Lord Mayor’s charity gig

A fantastic night of live music featuring four top bands is on offer at the first ever Lord Mayor of Canterbury’s Charity Music Gig at the Westgate Hall on Friday 30 October.
The event has been put together by the Lord Mayor, Cllr Alister Brady, and will also feature merchandise stands, food stalls and fundraising activities.
Tickets for the event cost £25, with doors opening at 6.30pm and the gig ending at 11pm. All the money raised will go to Cllr Brady’s chosen charity for the year, Kent Neuro Therapy Centre.
The four bands taking to the stage are Polo Lounge, Suncharmer, Crysometimes and Gypskazz.
Polo Lounge are a four-piece indie/alternative rock band from Canterbury, while Suncharmer are a high-energy rock quartet from the southeast with a dark indie/glam sound.
Crysometimes are a British indie rock band with a distinctive perspective on the alt pop/pop-rock genre, and Gypskazz are a six-piece band from Kent blending the upbeat rhythms of ska, reggae and gypsy jazz.
The event is being supported by Sunshine Ocean Records (event management, production, artist co-ordination), Rase Production Ltd (sound, stage, lighting), Akon (security) and the Westgate Hall (venue), all of whom are providing their services free of charge.
Cllr Brady has been working alongside BBC Introducing to put the musical line up together and the gig will be recorded for airing via that outlet.
The Lord Mayor said: “This is going to be one of the flagship events of my fundraising year, and it’s in aid of a truly incredible charity that does amazing work in our community making a real difference to the lives of people with neurological conditions.
“We have selected some of the best bands from Canterbury and elsewhere in the southeast to come and play for us, and that’s particularly exciting because we have such a thriving live music scene locally and across the region.
“Great bands playing live in support of a wonderful charity – what more could you want? It’s going to be a fantastic occasion and we hope to see the venue packed out.”
Tickets are available via the Eventbrite page. Entry is for people aged 16 and over, with 16 and 17-year-olds required to be accompanied by an adult.
