Survey work at Herne Bay bandstand
While we were disappointed that Herne Bay was unsuccessful in its Levelling Up Fund bid last year, we are still committed to looking at funding sources to help bring the bandstand back into full use – both the empty commercial unit and the currently closed bandstand itself.
In order to understand the full scale of work needed in the immediate and longer term, we need to do a full survey of the entirety of the bandstand. This includes the sub-structure that is located below the sand.
To do this, we need to temporarily remove all of the sand below the bandstand so that a specialist surveyor can check on the condition.
This work will be taking place tomorrow and Friday (22 and 23 August) and a small area of the beach will be cordoned off to allow the use of vehicles, removal of sand and safe access to the sub-structure.
While we know this work will bring hope to many that the bandstand will be back in full operation soon, unfortunately this is only the first step of many to get to that point – but a crucial first step nonetheless.
The Shared Prosperity Fund, a government funding programme for local councils, has been used to do this initial work with further funding allocated to help deliver immediate health and safety works to the building in the near future.
