Canterbury City Public Space Protection Order

We are consulting on proposals to introduce a new Canterbury City Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) for the city centre, which would apply for three years from 2027.

The current PSPO is due to expire in January 2027.

We are proposing to renew it, including the addition of a new activity to address the use of amplification equipment at high volumes, which has resulted in a large number of complaints.

PSPOs are designed to tackle nuisance behaviour that affects the quality of other people’s lives. They allow police officers and council enforcement officers to issue fixed penalty notices of up to £100 where rules are not followed.

The survey asks for your views on:

  • how seriously antisocial behaviour affects life in Canterbury city centre
  • whether you have witnessed any of the activities proposed for inclusion in the PSPO
  • whether the activities listed should be included in the 2027 order
  • whether the proposed area covered by the PSPO is appropriate
  • whether the proposals would unfairly affect you or others
