Draft Tenancy Policy

We are inviting residents, council tenants and local organisations to share their views on our draft Tenancy Policy.
The Tenancy Policy sets out how the council manages its own homes.
It covers tenancy types, rights and responsibilities, succession and household changes, and how decisions are made fairly and consistently.
We want to hear from current and prospective council tenants, and anyone with an interest in how social housing is managed in the Canterbury district.
The survey asks for your views on:
- how easy the draft policy is to understand
- how clearly tenancy types are explained
- whether the council’s approach to introductory and secure tenancies is fair
- how well the policy balances supporting tenants with making best use of limited housing
- whether the policy shows a clear commitment to supporting tenants to sustain their tenancies
- anything you think is missing from the draft
Have your say
Read the draft Tenancy Policy and share your views by completing our survey by 9am on Monday 7 September 2026.
You can also email your comments directly to us.
Please note: a separate consultation is being carried out on the council’s Tenancy Strategy, which sets out high-level principles and expectations for all social housing providers in the district.
Need help or an alternative format?
You can download a paper version of the survey if you would like to see the questions before completing it online, or to submit your responses by post.
